Grand Prize

A Three-Day Immersive Lettering Experience! The grand prize winner will receive up to $650 toward a plane ticket or other form of transportation to travel to California*. You’ll stay for two nights in the guest suite of my amazing mid-century modern Berkeley home. During the day, we’ll work together in my downtown Oakland office on whatever you please (want to make a lettering piece and then laser cut it? Sure! Want to learn how to letterpress on my Vandercook? That’s also an option! Want a private tour of Letterform Archive to look at amazing examples of historical type and lettering? I can arrange that!). I’ll take you out to (outdoor) dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, we’ll eat way too many delicious pastries (if that’s your thing), my kids will probably be obsessed with you (sorry in advance!). It will be a very unique experience for both of us.

* Continental US residents only. Winner must be fully vaccinated (including booster shot if applicable) at the time of travel—proof of vaccination required. We will monitor the state of the pandemic closely to determine the safest time for you to claim your prize. A negative PCR test may be required within 24 hours of travel regardless of vaccination status and if so I will provide the same for myself.

Runner-Up

The runner up will win a private three-hour workshop over zoom for you and up to 10 friends or colleagues. We can work together to choose the topic you or your team is most interested in. We can hone in on a singular lettering style, we can have a deep discussion about best business practices, or we can have a broader overview of lettering with a project at the core.

Third Prize

One hour of free design consultation over zoom (or potentially in person if you live in the Bay Area). This can take the form of a critique of an existing project, a tutorial of tips and tricks, live design help on a logo tweaking your curves…whatever you choose!
